Joanne Tangen

Owner & Designer

I am the owner of a drapery workroom where I fabricate couture draperies.

After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1980, I worked in the food service industry for many years and ultimately owned my own catering company.  After starting a family, and the mother of two young boys I wanted to be home on nights and weekends, therefore a career change was needed.

I began working for my Aunt, the owner of Johansen Interiors, where I fine tuned my sewing skills, making couture draperies for high end designers.  I also studied decorative painting techniques in post-graduate seminars.  Subsequently, I began my own business and was featured in The NY Times in 1997 and The Journal News in 1998 for my decorative painting.

While I do not have a degree in design, being exposed and working with designers for over 25 years I have knowledge of colors, fabrics, and textures,  always finding inspiration in a piece of art, a swatch of fabric, or just simply nature.

My portfolio will give you an idea of my decorating style which usually includes a colorful palate,  something unexpected, and almost always a little bling!

My latest endeavor was publishing my first children's book, "Whichway and His Dream Hat".  I wrote, illustrated, and published the true story about my son and how we cured him of his "scary movies in his head".  To find out more, visit www.whichwaysdreamhat.com
